This book is for all who want to learn more about AR15 rifle systems operation, and, of course, who want to create their own manifestations of those assembled systems.
Putting together a full-functioning and target-worthy AR15 isn’t what I’d call “hard,” but it’s not always all easy. The overall difficulty level in assembling a fully and correctly operational AR15 lies somewhere between changing a light bulb and fixing a lawnmower. As with many projects around the house or under the hood, when parts are what they should be and the proper tools are in hand, and wisdoms and precautions are followed, it’s at the least easier, if not actually easy. It’s when any number of mismatches, or oversights, or what can only be explained away as curses occur that it can become more difficult.
Yes, I used files building a couple of these rifles. Despite what many, maybe me included to at least some point, have led us to believe, AR15s don’t always just thread and pin together like we want. Even more, some have suggested that AR15 builders don’t really have to be gunsmiths, and, while largely true, there will be times when services of a trained ‘smith or machinist will be needed, either eventually, or, depending on luck, immediately. With all the “standardization” (more about that throughout…) it seems that tolerances would be such that a little give or take between parts should go scarcely noticed. Sometimes there’s going to be two parts demonstrating the maximum gives or a polarized give and take relationship, and, well, sometimes that requires files.
